Staying on Campus - Dorm Room Information

Check In

DRC and EMC will be hosted in the Blackwell Residence Hall on East Campus at Duke University. Please see the address below.

Address: 51 Brodie Gym Dr, Durham, NC 27708

DRC is offering two packages. One begins June 21st and the other begins June 22nd.

If you are checking in June 21, you will pick up your keys at the residence hall from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM. It is required to pick up your keys during this time. If you are unable to, please ask a colleague to retrieve your keys for you. If a colleague is unable to assist, please email ee21d403@smail.iitm.ac.in as he will assist you with coordinating the time to get your keys.

If you are checking in June 22, you must pick up your keys in the Fitzpatrick Building (FCIEMAS) during the hours that registration is open from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM. You will pick up your conference badge and then your keys to your dorm room.

Fitzpatrick Address: 101 Science Dr, Durham, NC 27705

If you are arriving after 8:00 PM, you have two options:

a) You may ask a colleague with an earlier arrival time to pick up your keys for you.

b) If you do not have someone to pick up your key for you before 8:00 PM, please come to the Washington Duke Inn (located at 3001 Cameron Blvd, Durham, NC 27705) before heading to Blackwell dorms. You will not be able to get into Blackwell without your keys. The front desk staff at the Washington Duke Hotel will give you your keys if you are picking up after 8:00 PM. Please give them your ID and mention that you are picking up keys for the Blackwell dorm room. From there, you can continue to the dorm.

Room numbering is set up like a hotel. For example, Room 2202 is on the 2nd floor. Room 3104 is on the 3rd floor.

All rooms are single occupancy.

Amenities and Linens

Your dorm room only comes with the following:

  • Bed Sheets (Twin Bed)
  • Blanket
  • Pillow
  • Towel

You are responsible for bringing any other items you wish you have with you for your stay.

You can pick up your linens during the following times/location based on your check-in date:

June 21: In the dorm rooms. The attendant in the dorm will show you to the Common space to pick up your linen package.

June 22: Your linens are located in the dorm room building. They are NOT in Fitzpatrick. You can pick them up in room 101 when you arrive to the dorms.

You are responsible for taking your linens and putting them in a large labeled bin in the Commons space the date you check out.

Dining

You are given $40 a day to spend on breakfast, any snacks, and lunch on campus.

East Marketplace is the closest dining hall to the dorm room. When you are on West campus (all sessions and conference activities are on West Campus) you can use your dining card at any restaurant.

Please note we have breaks with food, a free lunch on Monday, and appetizers at both the Welcome Reception and the Poster Session. The Conference Dinner will provide a full dinner as well. Please plan accordingly.

When you check out or enter the dining hall, tell them you are using “Conference Food” as there are different types of meal plans.

Note: Do not lose your dining card! We recommend you take a photo of your card in case you lose it as there is a serial number on the back. This will be needed to replace the card. We will not replace it if it is misplaced without this number.

Allergens? Just ask any staff member at Duke to assist you!

Transportation

As the dorm is on East Campus, you will need to take the shuttle to West Campus for conference activities.

You can find the shuttle schedule here: https://parking.duke.edu/buses-vans/summer-2025-csf-detour/

Please see the information regarding parking permits below if you are driving a personal vehicle.

Checking Out

On the day of check out, it is required that your items are out of the room by 12:00 PM.

You are required to take the linens you used and bring them downstairs. Please place them in the labeled bin.

There will be a box for your key. Please drop it in the box. Kindly note that if you lose your key, you are responsible for paying $150 USD to replace it per university policy.

You may bring your luggage to Fitzpatrick if you need to store it someplace.
